If you’ve visited Sint Maarten, or even if you haven’t, chances are quite high that you’ve seen an airplane or two come in to land at Princess Juliana International Airport, or SXM. I know I’ve seen it dozens of times and I’ve even posted video of my experience watching a plane take off from Maho and being on a plane as it arrives at SXM.
I stumbled across this video shot in 2017 of a 737 attempting to land at SXM during stormy weather. You can tell that the plane is way too low almost immediately and then, suddenly, the pilot guns the engines and the plane ascends to abort the take off. It then comes around one more time to land successfully. Thankfully, very quick action on behalf of the pilot helped prevent a catastrophe.
