Watch: CNN Airs Segment Showing Signs of Recovery in Sint Maarten

I wanted to share this video segment that was produced by CNN showing some of the signs that Sint Maarten is starting to recover. I apologize in advance for the quality, or lack of, but it’s the best version I could find of the clip.

Important to note is that, while this video does show a glimpse into some of the advances that had been made on the island after Irma, things there have progressed even further to date. Several grocery stores are open, many more stores, restaurants and banks are open again, and gas is becoming more readily available. In addition, electricity and water service has been restored to more areas — not all — on the island.

Still a tremendous amount of work to do, but it’s important to recognize and celebrate every milestone as the island recovers from Irma.

I fell in love with the island of Saint Martin the first time I visited to celebrate my 40th birthday in May of 2009. Since then, I've spent most birthdays there, and have visited countless other times getting to know this wonderful place and the friendly locals that make it so special. I adore the culture, the people, the community, and the beauty of this stunning island. SXM Strong is a website that I started to support humanitarian relief efforts following Hurricane Irma. There was no plan, it just evolved as I witnessed the devastation that Irma caused the island and the huge need to communicate and disseminate information about what had happened and how people could help support this island and its people.
