Commercial service is resuming today at Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) and the significance of that cannot possibly be overstated. For an island that relies on tourism to fund nearly it’s entire economy, Sint Maarten is happy to be back in business. And plenty of businesses are open as well.
In the following video, SXM acting Chief Operations Officer, Michel Hyman, gives us a tour of the airport as it prepares to open for commercial service. This inside look walks through both arrivals and departures areas, showing the maze of tents and equipment that have been carefully set up to process incoming and outgoing passengers in a efficient manner.
Most of the operations for the airport will be outdoors, under the newly erected tents, and it’s certainly going to be a different experience from normal. There’s no question that the positive, upbeat vibe of Sint Maarteners will make the airport experience feel unique and fun.
If you’re planning to visit soon, be sure to have fun, give hugs, and enjoy an ice-cold beverage with a local!
