U.S. Airlines Make Big Changes to Sint Maarten Flight Schedules with Reductions to New York Area (UPDATED)

Editor’s note/update: There was an error in the first version of the flight information we received that has now been corrected. JetBlue will be operating daily flights beginning January 5, 2018 between JFK and SXM. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

We’ve seen a lot of movement in the flight schedules of nearly every airline when it comes to resuming service to Sint Maarten’s Princess Juliana International Airport. And, rest assured, the changes that we see coming in today will most likely change again, or at least we hope they do.

With recent announcements coming from Royal Palms and Flamingo Beach Resorts that they will be closed through 2018, I suppose it’s no surprise that airlines are following suit and, likewise, pulling capacity out of the market. It’s looking more and more like 2018 in Saint Martin will rely heavily on the cruise industry — cruises are scheduled to resume in early December — as the main source of economic stimulation. That’s not good news for the local economy.

Of course, a lot of the smaller hotels — like Le Petit, Bleu Emeraude and Love Hotel and in Grand Case — will be open much sooner, with Bleu Emeraude set to open in February 2018. Personally, I think 2018 will be a great time to go visit Saint Martin, avoid crowds, get to know the locals, support the local economy and enjoy miles of tranquil beaches.

Bleu Emeraude currently has plenty of availability starting on February 1, 2018. My family will be there for five days in May and I cannot wait!! Click here to reserve a room at Bleu Emeraude now.

I fell in love with the island of Saint Martin the first time I visited to celebrate my 40th birthday in May of 2009. Since then, I've spent most birthdays there, and have visited countless other times getting to know this wonderful place and the friendly locals that make it so special. I adore the culture, the people, the community, and the beauty of this stunning island. SXM Strong is a website that I started to support humanitarian relief efforts following Hurricane Irma. There was no plan, it just evolved as I witnessed the devastation that Irma caused the island and the huge need to communicate and disseminate information about what had happened and how people could help support this island and its people.
