I just returned this past Friday from my second visit to the island of Saint Martin in less than a month. I was encouraged to see that even more businesses were open and that there seemed to be even more overnight tourists milling about. These are just a few signs that things are getting closer and closer to normal everyday.
You may have seen the interview I conducted on my last visit in early January of a couple from Peru who were on a cruise ship stop in Sint Maarten (if not, you can see it here). It was an quick, spur of the moment video and both of them were extremely enthusiastic about the island.
So naturally, I thought I’d try to find another couple to interview. This time I wanted to find people who were overnight guests and, preferably, had been on the island for at least a few days.
I found Charlie and Mary from Syracuse, New York, as they were leaving Karakter Beach Bar. In the video below they share their thoughts on how the island is recovering, the condition of the beaches, the amazing spirit of the people, and just how much fun it was being there. Check it out!
